"Pool Our Resources" - Howard County 4-H Food Drive

Background: We should all be familiar with the 4-H Pledge. It states “I pledge my hands to larger service.”  This cornerstone of our program is to give back to our community.
Situation: With the economic situation in our country, the Howard County Food Pantries are providing more services to more families. This has led to an increase in the need for donations of nonperishable, toiletries and paper goods.
Task: All Howard County 4-H families are being asked to donate nonperishables, toiletries and paper goods to fill the supply at our Howard County Food Pantries.
When: Donate now through July  22, 2011 at the Extension Office OR donate to the 4-H L.E.A.D. Center at the Howard County Fairgrounds during pre-fair and fair week.
Why: Community Service is a cornerstone of our program and we need to do our part to help anyway we can within our community. Every little bit helps!

The Howard County Extension Office is challenging you to donate a “TON!” Monetary donations will also be accepted to purchase items for donation. Thank you in advance for doing your part to uphold our 4-H Pledge in Howard County!

Judging Starts in 1 Week!

Although we have already had strawberry judging, the tractor driving contests and the dog show, all other judging starts 1 week from today. Can you believe it? Hopefully you have been busy working and are not getting into panic mode to get your projects completed. Please contact the Extension Office if you have any questions. Below are a few reminders and notes:

1.  Fair Set Up is this Thursday the 30th at 5:30 PM. Join us at the Metal and Block Buildings to clean and set up for judging and fair!

2.  Posters must be horizontal - no vertical - stiff backed and covered in plastic. We have boards and sleeves available for purchase at the Extension Office.

3.  Parking Passes - This year each family receives one parking pass. You need to stop by the Extension Office by 4 PM on Tuesday, July 6th to sign for it. After July 6th, you can visit the 4-H L.E.A.D. Center at the fairgrounds from 8 AM to 4 PM to sign for it there. Additional passes may be purchased from these offices for $10. Lost passes will be replaced for $10. Please note that the Lions Club parking fee will be $5 per day each day of the fair -starting at 3:30 PM. Prior to 3:30 PM you may visit the fair for free.

4.  Junior Leaders who want to go on the completion trip have until Thursday at 12 Noon to sign up. If there are not 25 signed up, the trip will be canceled. Currently we have 10 signed up.

I believe that is all for now. Check back daily for updates as judging and fair approaches.
